Conferences:

  • Visiting Professor John Hamilton made a presentation entitled, “The Pensioner's Dilemma: Vittorio De Sica's Umberto D and Italian Postwar Economic Conditions” at the Austrian Scholars Conference.  This conference was held on March 15-17, 2007 at Auburn University.
  • Professor Sam Gray presented a paper entitled, “Factors Associated with MRLS” to the Providence Christian College Science Club on March 30, 2007 on the college campus.  Click here for a summary of Dr. Gray’s presentation.

  • Professor Sam Gray and the Providence Microbiology students attended the Biodefense and Emerging Diseases conference in Washington D.C. from February 27- March 2, 2007.  The purpose of this meeting was to bring together individuals who are carrying out research to defend against the growing threat of bioterrorism and decision makers shaping the future biodefense research agenda, recognizing that emerging infectious diseases serve as a paradigm for handling the public threat of bioterrorism.

  • Adjunct Instructor of Philosophy, Kenneth Samples, presented at the Cosmic Fingerprints conferences in Fort Myers, FL and Houston, TX on January 26-28, 2007 and February 23-25, 2007, respectively.  At each of these conferences, sponsored by Reasons to Believe, he gave three talks regarding faith and science issues.
  • Steve Kortenhoeven, Dean of Student Life and Education professor, gave a presentation, “Sink or Swim: Floatation Devices for New Teachers,” at the Association of Christian Schools International conference November 20-21 in Anaheim, CA.  Education students Kendra Owsley and Ruby Snieder also attended the conference.
  • Professor Scott Swanson attended the Society of Biblical Literature/American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting and Institute for Biblical Research Annual Meeting November 17-21 in Washington, D.C.
  • Adjunct Instructor of Psychology, Darlene Lemmo, attended the Faith in Psychology and Counseling conference in Chattanooga, TN October 26, 2006.  This was a clinical and theoretical research symposium sponsoered by the Society for Christian Psychology. She was able to network with others who are participating in the Christian Psychology Project.  Next year, Lemmo plans to present a paper at the conference.
  • Professor Russ Reeves attended the Conference on Faith and History at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK in September.  He presented the paper, “Holy Church and Historical Church: John Williamson Nevin and Phillip Schaff as Church Historians.”
  • Professor Theodore Sabir, along with the Providence organic chemistry students, attended the American Chemical Society National Meeting in San Francisco September 10-14, 2006 where Sabir presented his research entitled, “Anticancer and Antiviral Activities of Oragnotin Polyether Amines Derived from the Antiviral Acyclovir.”  This conference attracts scientists from around the United States as well as some foreign delegates.  Click here for the news article.

Publications:

  • Professor Ashley Hales published a paper, “’Was it proper to watch him at a distance?’: spectatorship, sympathy and Atlantic migration in Edgar Huntly,” in the October issue of the journal, Symbiosis. A Journal of Anglo-American Literary Relations.  A copy of the journal can be found in the Providence Christian College library.

  • Adjunct Instructor of Philosophy, Kenneth Samples, has recently published a book entitled, A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE: PUTTING CHRISTIAN TRUTH-CLAIMS TO THE WORLDVIEW TEST (Baker, 2007).

  • Adjunct Instructor of Philosophy, Kenneth Samples has published the following articles in recent months: 
    • “What Makes the Christian God Unique?,” Connections, quarter 3, 2006, vol. 8, no. 3, p. 6-7.
