Housing Questions
Q. How many resident halls are there?
A. We have three resident halls, one men's and two women's.
Q. How many roommates will I have?
A. Anywhere from 1 to 6, depending on the size of the room.
Q. Are there community bathrooms?
A. Yes. Each resident hall has community bathrooms and shower rooms.
Q. What furniture is provided?
A. Each student gets a bed (bunk beds), desk, chair, and a closet with both a rod and shelves in it.
Q. What size sheets do we need?
A. The mattresses are extra-long twins.
Q. Are there phones jacks in the rooms?
A. Each room has one phone jack. The students need to provide their own phone. If they want a cordless phone, it must be 5.8 GHz in order to not interfere with our wireless campus.
Q. Can we bring a TV?
A. Yes. Students are more than welcome to bring a TV. There is connection to an antenna, but no cable. There are TVs in the lounges with a VCR/DVD player for students to use.
Q. Is there a laundry room in the dorm?
A. Yes. Each dorm is equipped with a laundry room. You may use the washers and dryers for free. There is also an iron and ironing board in each laundry room.
Q. What are we allowed/not allowed to bring?
A. Each room may have one refrigerator (no larger than 4 cubic feet). You are allowed to have a coffee pot and hot pot in your room. Microwaves, toasters, and popcorn poppers are not allowed in the dorm as they take up a lot of energy and are a fire hazard. You are allowed to have candles in your room as decorations, but are not allowed to light them.
Q. Can I decorate my room?
A. Yes, students are encouraged to make their room their "home" by decorating and arranging it how they like it. Obviously roommates must decide together how they want to decorate their room and nothing should be hung that would be offensive to others.
Q. May I store my things over the summer?
A. Each student is allowed a certain amount of storage space over the summer. Providence will provide the size limits as summer gets closer.
Q. When can I move in and what dates do I have to be out?
A. Move-in Day for freshmen and transfer students is the Friday before classes begin (August 25, 2006). Move-in Day for returning students is the Tuesday before classes begin (August 29, 2006). The resident halls close during the following breaks:
Thanksgiving- Wednesday before Thanksgiving through Monday after
Christmas- Saturday after final exam through Monday before classes begin
Mid-Term break- entire break
Students do not need to move their things out of the rooms during these breaks, but they may not stay in the resident halls during these times. Students must move out (with all of their stuff) the day after final exams end in the Spring.
